Alright I just have one thing to say, FUCK PURDUE! And fuck the direction they are taking their ‘school of higher learning’. It’s a load of Bull Shit. Take their stance on their students, for example. They believe ‘we’, I say ‘we’ because all of us have had problems at one time or another, are nothing more than fat wallets that have nothing better to do than shell extortionate amounts of cash to them. In fact, if they don’t think you’re giving them enough they’ll take you to court, even if it’s without a reason (OR A FALSE REASON!!!!!). The latter happened to me. Here let me set it up for you. I was a student at Purdue, did ok in my classes, and paid my bills and my taxes. Hell, I even held a University job. Sure I had my problems, who didn’t have problems with financial aid (Stupid FAFSA, but that’s a topic for another rant), but all my bills were paid on time, except for one. One bill I walked over, day before it was due. I had barely enough in my checking account to cash it. Somehow a MONTH later, when some of the monies had already been spent the check was cashed. I mean a MONTH after they received the damn thing they cashed it. What were they doing with it, playing hide the envelope? The check of course bounced, and I scrambled to get more money, got it and sent it off the Purdue. The check somehow never arrived… So I called up my bank and told them cancel the check. I went in that day and got myself a money order and put it in the mail. Thinking that was the end of it, I put the carbon copy in my file and forgot about it. About two months later I received a Summons in the mail. The god damn University was Suing me for “delinquency of payment”. I was shocked and appalled. First thing I did, I admit it, was set the statement aside until my mother got home. Next day I called up the university and was like, what the fuck is going on (Of course I phrased it much nicer.)? They of course tell me that they never received payment of the $1200 I owed on my last bill, thus they were suing me for something like $1846.23 (Yes they had to include the 23 cents!). I told them of the money orders, but the guy refused to believe me (Yes he actually said I did not send in a money order and accused me of lying to him.). Now this guy pissed me off, I’ve never been treated so badly by a company I had been doing business with ever. I got off the phone with that guy and called up my bank, which is also owned by Purdue. They told me the money order had already been cashed, and I should bring in a carbon copy to the University. So I did just that, did that change anything? Noooooo… They then told me that the carbon copy was not proof enough, that it could be a forgery, or that I could have not mailed it. I almost slapped myself silly there. Yeah, I’m going to withdraw $1200 from my bank account and leave it laying around where I can not spend it! I’ve got other bills that that money would have been good for. I got pissed at them and left, with my carbon copy in my hands. A couple months passed and things were still going nowhere, Purdue refused to listen to me anymore. Finally the court date came up. I walked in with all my evidence, and meet with Purdue’s representative. He gave me the same run around at first, then I pulled out everything I had, including a statement that said the check had been cashed. He then proposed that we delay the trial for a week. The judge walked in before we could make an agreement. The judge asks about the stuff, and goes over another guy’s case first. They work things out, where the kid basically signed his life away. Then I was up, I gave my evidence to the judge and he looked it over and was like, hmmm… It looks like you paid, and I was like I did. He then noticed I hadn’t gotten certified mail, so the actual delivery of the money order wasn’t definite (Even though the bank said the damn thing had been cashed). He decided to put the rest of the case on hold for a week, to see if the money turned up. If it did, he’d rule in my favor. If it didn’t then he’d have to rule in favor of Purdue. 4 days passed, and I woke up early one morning to a phone call. It was Purdue on the line, they had found the check. They claimed it had “just been processed”. They didn’t even apologize for putting me through all that crap. They just said, we’ll take care of things. Hell, they didn’t even admit they made a mistake. They just said goodbye and left me there. Oh yeah, they also expelled me, yeah that’s right. While all this was going on, I couldn’t attend classes there. I went through the entire readmissions process (which by the way can be a real bitch) and the day before classes started, they denied me. I mean talk about last minute, first they sued me, then they didn’t give me notice on my denial (which I might add was for no reason.). In short, Fuck Purdue.
